Acacia attenuata is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae and is endemic to south-east Queensland. It is a slender shrub with lance-shaped or narrowly oblong phyllodes, often also juvenile bipinnate leaves, cream-coloured flowers arranged in head of 20 to 35, and papery or leathery pods up to 100 mm (3.9 in) long.

Rainforest-margin tree of D'Aguilar's mid-slopes

An evergreen tree that can exceed 40m in wild forest, with a dome-like crown of dark, leathery leaves. Wikipedia's D'Aguilar National Park article lists it as a dominant species of the park's mid-altitude forest, the transition zone between dry eucalypt woodland and the park's moist rainforest gullies.

How to spot it

Dense, dark green, leathery leaves forming a rounded, deeply shading canopy — a noticeably closed crown compared to the more open eucalypts nearby. Rarely sheds large limbs (safer to camp or picnic under than the surrounding gums), with clusters of small white flowers on the outer canopy.

A small salt-tolerant tree found on Burleigh Head's seaward-facing slopes, prized for flowers that open bright yellow and deepen to red by day's end.

How to spot it

Heart-shaped leaves; flowers change colour through the day from yellow with a deep red centre to orange then red.

Spiny-leaved coastal tree with prominent aerial prop roots, found along Burleigh Head's seaward slopes where rainbow lorikeets feed on the blossoms of surrounding vegetation.

How to spot it

Spirally arranged saw-edged leaves up to 150cm, prominent stilt-like prop roots, pineapple-like segmented fruit.

How to spot it

Drooping grey-green branchlets with scale-like leaves in whorls of 12, fissured greyish-brown bark, small winged seed cones.

Illidge's ant-blue butterfly, is an endangered species of butterfly endemic to Australia. This species can be found at six confirmed sites: Mary River Heads, Beaver Rock and Maaroom in the Fraser Coast Region (Queensland); Redland Bay and Point Halloran in the City of Redland (Queensland), and Brunswick Heads.
