Fan palms that line the hidden chasms and gorges of the Bungle Bungle Range, described by DBCA as a defining feature of Purnululu National Park — seen crowding Echidna Chasm and the Mini Palms walk. Exact species-level identity of the Bungle Bungle population is still debated in the literature, so it's listed here at genus level rather than guessed at species level.

How to spot it

Tall, solitary fan palms with a fibrous crown of pleated, fan-shaped fronds, growing from soil pockets deep in narrow sandstone gorges where they're sheltered from fire and get reliable moisture — look for them lining the walls of Echidna Chasm and along the Mini Palms trail.
