About this hike

This 35km multi-day trail links the small coastal villages of the Murramarang coast -- Pretty Beach, Depot Beach, Durras and Maloneys Beach -- over roughly three easy days, making it one of the more accessible multi-day walks on the NSW South Coast. Unlike most overnight bushwalks, it doesn't require camping gear: cabin accommodation is available at points along the route, so walkers can carry a lighter pack between beaches. The track alternates between tall coastal forest, where eastern grey kangaroos are a near-certain sight grazing right down to the sand, and rock platforms and secluded beaches with little foot traffic beyond the trail itself. Its gentle grading and village-to-village structure make it a good entry point into multi-day coastal walking for people not ready for a fully self-sufficient trek.

A tall eucalypt with distinctive smooth, mottled bark. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service notes Murramarang as one of the rare places in Australia where spotted gum forest grows right down to the edge of the ocean.

How to spot it

Smooth, mottled pinkish-grey or bluish-grey, often dimpled bark rather than the rough bark of many eucalypts. Lance-shaped adult leaves 80-210mm long, flower buds in groups of three, and white flowers from March to September.
