Relic eucalypt of the Southern Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island

About

A tall eucalypt with mottled yellow-to-orange bark, occurring naturally in three isolated South Australian populations (southern Flinders Ranges, Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island) that are relic forests from a wetter climatic past.

How to spot it

Smooth grey bark shedding in patches to reveal fresh yellow-brown colour underneath, glossy lance-shaped leaves 8-17cm long, and creamy-white summer flowers followed by barrel- or urn-shaped capsules. Flinders Ranges specimens can reach up to 35m tall.
