Sturt's Desert Rose

About

A hardy desert shrub bearing large mauve-pink flowers with dark red centres, and the official floral emblem of the Northern Territory, appearing on its flag. First collected by explorer Charles Sturt in 1844-45.

How to spot it

A rounded shrub 1-2 m tall with aromatic, rounded grey-green leaves. Flowers up to 12 cm across, pale pink to purple-maroon with five petals, flowering most of the year and peaking in late winter.
