Snappy Gum

About

A small, hardy eucalypt of the western Pilbara's rocky gullies and skeletal sandstone soils. DBCA names it as a feature of Millstream Chichester National Park's Snappy Gum Drive, a scenic transect from rocky ranges through snappy gum and cadjeput woodlands to the park's wetlands and river.

How to spot it

New bark is pale pink to pale orange, maturing to white and ageing in patches to dark pink or grey — a striking, mottled trunk. Dull green to grey-green leaves 50-120mm long. Typically a small tree only 2.5-10m tall.
