Sandy Cape Geebung

Persoonia prostrata

Family Proteaceae

Presumed Extinct

About

Known only from two historical collections at Sandy Cape on K'gari - Robert Brown's original 1802 specimen and a late 19th-century gathering - this prostrate dune shrub has not been seen since and is now listed as extinct.

How to spot it

Prostrate (ground-hugging) shrub with elliptic to spatula-shaped leaves 23-50mm, flowers around 10mm, resembles Persoonia stradbrokensis but smaller-leaved; occupied sandy dune heathland at the island's northern tip.
