Rare - Largest Fronds in the World

About

Described as rare on K'gari, this giant rainforest fern produces the largest fronds of any fern species on Earth, growing along creek banks in sheltered, well-drained gullies.

How to spot it

Enormous bipinnate fronds up to 9m long and 2.5m wide, trunk-like rhizome to 1m diameter, distinctive ear-shaped stipules (auricles) up to 15cm.

  • K'gari (Fraser Island)/Great Sandy National Park
