Fringes the tidal lake edges of Coombabah Lakelands, one of only five Queensland wetlands on the Ramsar international convention list, sending up pencil-like breathing roots from the mud.
How to spot it
Smooth grey flaking bark, glossy leaves with silvery undersides, pneumatophores (peg roots) standing upright from the mud around the base.
