Golden Wattle

About

A small tree of the Flinders Ranges and southern Eyre Peninsula, prized for its bright golden ball-shaped flower clusters. Formally adopted as Australia's national floral emblem in 1988.

How to spot it

Sickle-shaped, hanging phyllodes (9-15cm long) rather than true leaves, dark brown to grey bark, and masses of bright yellow, ball-like flowers from July to November, followed by flat brown seed pods.
