About
One of the dominant trees of Top End open forest and savanna, flowering with striking orange to scarlet blooms from May to September when much of the surrounding bush is dry and brown.
How to spot it
Grows 15-25 m tall with soft, fibrous, fissured grey to red-brown bark on the trunk but smooth pale-grey bark higher up. Lance-shaped dull green leaves and clusters of seven orange-scarlet flowers.
