Coast Wattle

About

A sprawling, low-growing coastal subspecies of Sydney Golden Wattle that colonises frontal and secondary dunes around much of southern Australia's coast, its spreading root system helping to anchor loose sand behind the foredune grasses.

How to spot it

Broad, leathery, sickle-shaped phyllodes rather than true leaves. Bright yellow rod-shaped flower spikes in late winter/spring, and a low, spreading, wind-shorn habit distinguishes it from the taller inland form of the species.
