About
A tall, fast-growing eucalypt named among the forest trees of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and long valued as an important commercial timber species for its ease of regeneration.
How to spot it
Rough, finely fibrous greyish-brown bark low on the trunk, giving way to white, grey or cream smooth bark higher up - the 'black butt' contrast that names the tree. Strong V-shaped branch forks are a distinctive feature.
